5-Star Tips for Riders

May 5, 2017 / Global

We want all Uber trips to be as positive as possible. One way we ensure the quality of our community is with a two-way rating system. Here’s how it works: after every trip, riders and driver-partners have the option to rate each other on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better. Wondering what to do to earn a high rating? Here’s a list of suggestions from driver-partners about what makes a 5-star rider.

Tips for earning five stars as an Uber rider

1. Be in the right place

Do your best to double check your pickup location before requesting a ride. Consider typing it in rather than dropping your pin, since GPS accuracy may vary in different places. If your driver can’t easily locate you, they’re more likely to give you a lower rating.

5-star tip: If you’re requesting a ride for multiple people, gather your group before requesting an Uber ride so you’re all together when your car arrives.

2. Be on time

Driver-partners try their best to pick you up promptly. Please try to return the favor by being ready to hop in your Uber when it arrives.

5-star tip: Running a couple minutes late? Contact your driver with a status update.

3. Be respectful

This suggestion should be obvious. Treat your driver and their car with respect. Remember the car is often their personal property, so make sure to clean up after yourself and be polite.

5-star tip:
Say “Hello” and state your name when you enter the car. The introduction also helps your driver confirm you’re the correct rider.

4. Don’t squeeze extra riders in the car

For the safety of everyone in the Uber, there should only be as many riders in the car as there are seat belts available.

5-star tip
: Need a ride that can fit more than four? Check the Uber app to see if your city has uberXL or UberSUV, which can fit up to 6 riders. Don’t have these options? Request multiple cars and split the fare with friends.

5. Confirm you’re in the correct Uber

Before your trip begins, check that you’re about to get in the correct car. To confirm, tell the driver your name and ask him or her to do the same.

5-star tip:
Looking for other ways to confirm it’s the right ride? We got you covered. The make, model, and license plate of your ride will also appear in the app.
