Each New Year’s Eve Uber offers riders across Australia and New Zealand a safe and reliable way to get to and from their celebrations with just the push of the button.

Ahead of one of the busiest nights of the year, here are some simple tips to make your ride a 5-star experience.

  • Message your driver: Whether you’re wearing a tuxedo or fancy dress, by sending messages through the Uber app you can help your driver know who to look out for. Your messages are read aloud so your driver can keep their attention on the road.
  • Light up the night: Use the Spotlight app feature to connect with your driver. After requesting a ride, just tap the button in the bottom right hand corner of the app and your phone will light up with a colourful ‘Spotlight’ as your driver approaches. The driver sees this same colour in the app, so they know they have the right rider.
  • Check your ride: It’s likely other riders in your location will be looking for their ride the same time you are. To make sure you catch the right ride this New Year’s Eve, check your driver and their car matches the info in your app, including the licence plate, make/model of the car, and driver photo.
  • Share your trip: If your loved ones are counting down to your arrival, you can share your status from the app with them. They’ll be able to watch your progress on a map including your ETA, and see details about your driver, and vehicle make/model – even if they don’t have the Uber app themselves. To make it even easier, set up your Trusted Contacts in the app before heading out to celebrate the New Year.
  • Check the cost before you request: Before you request a ride through the Uber app, you’ll see in the app the actual or estimated fare before you ride. If it’s out of your price range, you can check back in a few minutes or choose another available transportation option.
  • Be a 5-star rider: Driver-partners are sharing their New Year with you, and their car as well – so remember to help keep the car clean, treat your driver with respect and put on your seatbelt. Simple steps like these can help you become a 5 star rider in 2019!
