What you need to drive with Uber
Step 1 - Upload Your Documents
You can conveniently upload your required documents online or at a Greenlight Hub. You will need the following:
- Driver's Licence - You must have a current unrestricted NSW licence and held a full Australian licence for at least 12 months in the last 2 years. Licence expiry must be 5 yrs or less - no 10 year licences are permitted.
- Vehicle Insurance (unless you are partnered under another UberBLACK driver-partner) - Comprehensive or Third Party Property Damage. Click here for more detail
- Vehicle Registration (unless you are partnered under another UberBLACK driver-partner) - Must be current NSW registration
Step 2 - NSW Driving Record and Proof of ID
Along with your Driver's Licence, you'll need to submit to us a Proof of ID document - for example Passport, Birth Certificate, Citizenship Certificate, ImmiCard, or Document for Travel to Australia.
You'll also need to send us a copy of your NSW driving record. You can get this online at the Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) website or in person at the nearest Service NSW Office.
These documents can be submitted to the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
At this time, we will also run a police background check against your name.
Step 3 - Lodge a Background Check
As part of the signup process, driver-partners are required to pass a criminal background check through the National Crime Check (NCC). This can be done online and is usually processed within 14 days.
You will receive a confirmation email and a copy of your results once your background check has been processed. No action is required from you after lodging - NCC will supply a copy of your results to Uber.

Step 4 - Apply for a Passenger Transport Code
You will be required to get a Passenger Transport Licence Code (PTLC) in order to become a driver partner with Uber. If you’re happy for Uber to submit a PTLC application to the RMS on your behalf along with a copy of your driver’s licence, simply complete the online form.
