Located in a student village, Varsity Nedlands near the University of Western Australia boasts a young, American college movie vibe. Upon entering, you are greeted with chilled-out couches and flashy TVs, and the place is packed with students on their lunch breaks gorging themselves on hot wings and burgers. It’d almost be a crime to visit without trying the cream cheese jalapeño poppers, teamed with a decadent blue cheese sauce. The hot wings are spicy enough to make you cry, but so good you can’t resist. We suggest the mild version for the faint of heart which is teamed with fresh celery and the house cheese whip dip- heaven in your mouth!
The Texan burger is a real crowd pleaser; you’ll swear you just dusted off your cowboy boots and stepped into a saloon. The double meat patties combined with gooey cheese, tobacco onions (which are legit crispy onion rings stuffed in the burger) all smothered in BBQ sauce will have you hollering for more Americana goodness after you’re done.
Varsity Bar Nedlands does an American frat house flair, with cable barrel tables, picnic benches and rustic wooden counters side-by-side with pool tables and televised live sports. It’s an ideal environment to settle in for the afternoon and watch live sports with your mates over one of the many beers or ciders on tap. Alternatively, you can wash it all down with one of the pimped-out milkshakes, in flavours like popcorn salted caramel and chocolate marshmallow. Yum!
