What you can do if your business is affected by COVID-19

January 16 / Australia

We understand that you might be experiencing unexpected changes in your restaurant due to the current COVID-19 situation.

If your restaurant has been affected by COVID-19, it is important that your customers are kept up to date with the most accurate information.

Changes to menu hours or items

It’s important that your customers are aware of any short term changes to your menu hours or items. If you need to change your hours or menu on short notice, there are a few tools you can use.

Updating menu hours

There are two ways you can update your menu hours:

In Uber Eats Manager:

  1. Go to merchants.ubereats.com/manager/holiday-hours
  2. Select ‘Holiday Hours’
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ‘Add More’
  4. Select the date impacted by your staffing changes
  5. If you will be closed all day, please select ‘Closed all day’
  6. You can also change your opening hours.
  7. Click ‘Save’

In your Uber Eats Orders tablet:

  1. On the tablet screen, click the menu icon ☰
  2. Select the ‘Hours’ tab
  3. Select ‘Holiday Hours’ and follow the prompts to add, remove or edit your menu hours for the days impacted

Marking a menu modification or item out of stock

In your Uber Eats Orders tablet:

  1. Tap the navigation icon and select ‘Menu availability’
  2. Locate the item and select the ‘Available’ button. From here, you can mark it as out of stock for the day or indefinitely.
  3. To mark the item as back in stock, simply follow the same process, locate the item and mark it as ‘Available’

These updates will show on your storefront on Uber Eats.

COVID-safe interactions with delivery people and customers

We are doing everything we can to ensure that delivery people are available to pick up your orders when they are ready. You can read more about how we’ve got you covered here

We have a few tips for staying safe during these challenging times.

There are a few things that you can do to limit the spread of COVID-19:

  • Have a designated area for Uber Eats orders to be collected. We recommend that you make this handover experience as contactless as possible
  • Wear the appropriate face masks in line with Public Health advice
  • Have hand sanitiser readily available at your designated pick up area
  • If you are still preparing an order when a delivery person arrives, request that they wait outside and bring the order out to them when it is ready

Update your pick up instructions

We recommend including COVID-19 safety precautions in your pick up instructions to ensure that delivery people feel safe when collecting orders.

To help you, we have created a simple template for writing clear pick up instructions:

We are located at ____.
It is best to park _____.
Please be sure to_____.

Here’s an example of what this might look like:

We are located at 10 Smith St, Melbourne
It is best to park out the front of the store.
Please be sure to come to the designated Uber Eats pick up counter and show your order number. Please wear an appropriate face mask.

Next time you’re in your restaurant, you can update these pick up instructions by accessing your tablet. Here’s how:

  • On the tablet screen, click the menu icon ☰
  • Select ‘Settings’
  • Select ‘Business Information’
  • Update your pick up instructions using the above template as a guide

Make sure your customers have the latest information.
