The Uber team is always experimenting with new ways to offer riders more affordable and reliable ways to get from A to B, while keeping driver-partners busy to help maximise their earnings

After 22 months in Queensland, Uber has learned that one of the best ways to increase driver-partner earnings is to boost demand for rides. And one of the most effective ways to boost demand is to cut prices for riders.

So today Uber will begin trialling a 20% reduction in uberX prices to get more riders on the road taking more trips, and in turn increase driver-partner earnings.

For riders, these are the lowest uberX prices ever in Queensland, and they make uberX an even more affordable way to get from A to B.

For driver-partners, higher demand for rides means more time moving people, less time spent waiting around and more money in their back pocket.
In fact, when Uber reduced uberX prices in Perth and Melbourne last year, the result was many more people choosing uberX to get around, and Uber’s driver-partners spent less time online waiting and more time on trips, making more money. Hourly earnings went up, and we expect that to happen again.

While pricing is a science, every city is different: different economic circumstances; different regulations; different competition. We’ve learned over the years that we do best when we test new things. With each new test—small or large—we learn more about the choices riders make, and how those choices impact earnings for driver-partners.

Over the coming month, we’ll be watching closely to see if riders are taking more trips, and if we find that driver-partners aren’t busier as a result of these reductions, Uber will review prices again. In addition, Uber is guaranteeing certain gross hourly earnings for driver-partners in certain locations across the busiest hours of the week during the period 6am on the 19th of February until 6am on the 18th of March (local time).

So no matter where you are heading we hope you’ll let Uber take you there. Our goal is simple: a better, smarter way of getting from A to B that saves riders money and increases earnings for driver-partners.

See you on the road!
