We’ve listened to your requests and after 2 years off the road, we’re pleased to announce that Uber services are returning to the capital! The Select ride option is available immediately, and new options will be introduced over the coming months.

Starting November 19, you can book Uber rides in Abu Dhabi.

We’ve been working continuously with the ITC and have reached an agreement to bring Uber back to the capital. We’re excited to be back and part of this city’s future. Residents and visitors alike will now be able to enjoy the same reliability, convenience and affordability they know and love around the world.

This product will be priced at premium above taxi with the same type of cars and pricing you would get with Select in Dubai.

Why are we relaunching now?
We’ve been listening to customers who have been asking us to return to the capital—Abu Dhabi residents in particular. Over the past 6 months, Uber has had positive conversations with the ITC and our ultimate goal was to resume operations in a positive regulatory environment to keep Abu Dhabi moving. Uber services will officially resume in Abu Dhabi starting Monday, November 19, 2018. This is a pivotal and exciting moment for Uber in the UAE.
What has changed since we suspended operations in Abu Dhabi?
Previous regulations on pricing made it difficult to bring back an affordable and reliable service which Uber is known for. After almost two years of not being present in the capital of the UAE, Uber has signed a contract with the ITC to allow our services to relaunch.
What will the vehicles and pricing be?
Similar to our current offering in Dubai, the Select product in Abu Dhabi will be priced at a premium above taxi with similar types of vehicles.
Will we be working with fleet companies?
We will be working on a model similar to the one in the Dubai. However, in Abu Dhabi, Emirati citizens will eventually be able to use their private vehicles to drive on the Uber app, as per ITC’s regulations.
Will drivers be able to be onboarded in Abu Dhabi and drive in Dubai?
No, drivers onboarded in Abu Dhabi will not be able to do any pick-ups in Dubai. Likewise, drivers onboarded in Dubai will not be able to do pick-ups in Abu Dhabi.
What does this mean for taxi?
Our experience in global markets shows that we don’t compete with taxi. We believe that when regulations are structured in a way that gives people more choice in getting around, and we can replace individual car usage with a shared model, a more efficient urban mobility environment is possible.
How many cars will we have?
Although we do not disclose exact numbers of cars available on the app, we are working continuously internally and with local stakeholders to make sure there is enough supply to meet the demand we anticipate in Abu Dhabi.
