Blair's story:
Owner of Left Coast Foodworks

Meet Blair.

Tell us about your business – what it’s all about?

Left Coast Foodworks is a Cottage Food Operation in Santa Monica, CA. I create artisanal dry BBQ rubs (Chef Blair's BBQ Red Eye Rub) and smoked salt (Ye Ol' Grog Smoked Sea Salt) in a home kitchen. It all got started while I was going back to school to earn my culinary degree. I tapped into all of the knowledge of the instructors for guidance and with their support I was able to create these wonderful tasting products. Also, I offer my services as a private chef.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur has many challenges that can be positive and negative at the same moment. Everything is on you for every aspect of your success. My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is knowing you'll never run out of things to do!

How does Uber contribute to being a small business owner?

Being an Uber driver-partner allows me to easily promote my business while taking our riders around the city. They usually want to take my card and want to know where the can find my products. A good percentage of riders are thrilled that I have a small business and want to know more.

Why did you start driving with Uber?

As with all startups, you have some down time between orders and cooking gigs. Being a driver fills in the gaps with ultimate flexibility to go online anytime.
