Instructions for drivers

Starting this Friday, April 21st, tens of thousands of race fans will visit the Tri-Cities for the Food City 500 held at Bristol Motor Speedway and they will be relying on you to get them around safely! Bristol Motor Speedway will be the center of attention for the marque race, The Food City 500, as well as other races leading up to it. Take a look below for more information on race & event schedules, as well as road closures & traffic flow. This is a week you won't want to miss!

Traffic Flow Before & After the Race

The below directions describe conditions from 6:00am to 2:00pm on April 23rd (Traffic will increase closer to the race start).

  • Hwy 11 and 394 will be open to inbound traffic in all directions

  • When heading from Johnson City, it is best to take Hwy 11E towards Bristol then Hwy 394 to the stadium/UBER drop off location. Alternate Route: If traffic begins to backup between Johnson City and Bristol Motor Speedway take I-26, to I-81, and then Hwy 394 to the stadium/UBER drop off location.

  • All roads will be open inbound coming from Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport

  • To enter the UBER dropoff location: When heading Southwest on Hwy 394 turn right onto Sweet Knobs Trail and the parking lot will be on your right in approximately 100 feet. When heading Northwest on Hwy 394 turn left onto Sweet Knobs Trail and the parking lot will be on your right in approximately 100 feet

The below directions describe conditions 1 hour before the end of The Food City 500. Approximate race end is 5pm on April 23rd (pending any race delays).

  • Roads will be redirected for inbound traffic on Hwy 11 and 394 in all directions (3 lanes will be open heading away (outbound) from Bristol Motor Speedway & 1 lane will be open heading towards (inbound) to Bristol Motor Speedway)

  • Crossroads along Hwy 11 and 394 will be closed to traffic extending approximately 1 mile from Bristol Motor Speedway

For best experience picking up riders:

  • Arrive at the UBER pickup area 30 to 45 minutes before the end of the Food City 500. The race is scheduled to end at approximately 5pm (pending any race delays). Riders will leave the speedway and head towards the pickup lot.

  • To leave the lot, traffic must exit left onto Sweet Knob Trail and head Northeast, this will lead you onto Hwy 394.

  • If heading towards Johnson City, traffic will turn left onto Sweet Knob Trail, then turn left (Northwest) onto Hwy 394, and finally turn right onto Weaver Pike. Follow signs/GPS to Johnson City.
