HOW CAN I BECOME AN UBERASSIST DRIVER-PARTNER?
To drive on the uberASSIST platform, you need to have the training and experience to help riders with different accessibility-related needs. You can demonstrate your skills in a few different ways:
Be invited to and successfully complete Tracy Schmitt’s Online Education Course. Tracy is a third-party accessibility coach with years of experience, and she’s an avid Uber rider! To review Tracy’s education videos and other informational materials for uberASSIST, you can visit Tracy's website
- Online Education Course invitations will be sent to partners when certain driving criteria have been met and space opens up in the program.
- Have taken 1+ hours of formal instruction regarding the accommodation of individuals with disabilities within the past five years (proof of completion required); Or
- Have worked for 1+ years as a paratransit or other specialized transportation provider (proof of completion required).
WHAT IS THE PRICING FOR UBERASSIST?
The pricing for uberASSIST is the same as uberX.
WILL I STILL RECEIVE UBERX REQUESTS?
Yes, you will receive your regular uberX requests along with uberASSIST requests.
DO I HAVE TO ALLOW SERVICE ANIMALS INTO THE CAR?
Yes, regardless of whether it is an uberASSIST or uberX trip allowing service animals in your vehicle is a legal requirement.
CAN I OPT-OUT OF BEING AN UBERASSIST DRIVER?
If you no longer wish to receive uberASSIST trips, you can easily opt-out by reaching out to Uber Support through the Uber app or stopping by one of our support locations
IS THERE INSURANCE IF A RIDER IS ACCIDENTALLY INJURED AS I’M HELPING THEM TO OR FROM THE CAR?
Likely yes. UberASSIST riders are generally protected by Uber's commercial liability insurance while entering and exiting vehicles at their requested pickup and drop off locations.
WHAT IF MY CAR ISN’T BIG ENOUGH TO HOLD MY UBERASSIST RIDER’S MOBILITY EQUIPMENT?
All vehicles should be able to accommodate an assistive device, such as a folding wheelchair or scooter. If your vehicle cannot safely fit your rider’s assistive device, you can cancel the trip and reach out to us via the Uber app to let us know why and avoid a cancellation fee.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I HELP/HANDLE RIDERS GETTING IN/OUT OF CAR?
Many riders prefer that you always ask before physically assisting them. You might want to offer to provide your arm to guide or help the rider find their balance when walking or getting up from a chair into a car. For safety reasons, you should not physically lift anyone out of a wheelchair or a scooter.

The training covers knowledge and safety requirements to accommodate riders with accessibility needs. If you pass the test, you will begin receiving additional uberASSIST trip requests, which are priced at the same level as uberX.
