Damage to your Hertz rental car

Learn more about how damage to the rental car will be handled.

What is the Hertz Loss Damage Waiver?

This is a waiver which relieves you of financial responsibility over the $1,000 deductible amount in the event of loss or damage to the rental car while offline or online (but not currently matched with a rider), subject to compliance with the Rental Agreement. The cost of the Loss Damage Waiver is included in the weekly rate for the vehicle.

How does the Hertz Loss Damage Waiver protect you?

It relieves you of all responsibility over the $1,000 deductible amount for damage to or loss of the rental car while offline or online (but not currently matched with a rider), whether or not you have insurance to cover such damage, provided the car is used in accordance with the terms of the rental agreement.

What are the other damage protection options?

Your own personal insurance may provide protection for loss or damage to the rental vehicle depending on the state in which you live and the type of policy you have.

Various credit card companies provide cardholders with some degree of damage protection provided you use their credit card to pay for the rental. The coverage and limits vary.

Your insurance policy or credit card coverage should be thoroughly checked for the specific terms and conditions associated with rental vehicles. Remember, most insurance products which provide physical damage protection when the credit card is used to pay for the rental are provided on a secondary basis, that is, it will only reimburse you for loss or damages over and above what is covered by any other insurance you may have, and will not cover you for any damage, regardless of cause, if you accept the Loss Damage Waiver.

You should check with your insurance company or credit card provider.
