Welcome to The Inside Track, a quarterly update to provide you with the tools, information, and insider tips to grow your business on the Uber platform.
Uber simply would not be where it is today if not for you. We’re grateful to partner with you now and going forward as we keep New Yorkers moving across the five boroughs safely and reliably each and every day. Thank you for your partnership.
In case you missed it
A new way to rate uberPOOL trips
We heard from you that it’s frustrating when riders give you bad ratings for things out of your control, so we’re fixing that.
To help protect your rating, riders now have more options when they rate an uberPOOL trip. If a rider isn't happy with their uberPOOL trip because of things out of your control (like the trip route, number of pickups, or the behavior of their co-riders), it won't affect your rating.
An easier way to understand earnings
We heard from you that understanding POOL earnings can be confusing, so we've worked to make them clearer. As always, your POOL earnings are calculated based on time and distance from when the first rider is picked up to when the last rider is dropped off.
To simplify the earnings breakdown, POOL trip detail pages will now show time, distance, and earnings for the entire length of a POOL trip—from the first pickup to the last drop off.
More navigation options for uberPOOL trips
We heard from you that you want the choice to use other navigation services on POOL trips, so we’ve worked to make that possible. To give you more control over your trips, you now have the choice to use any navigation app on uberPOOL trips.
Clearer surge on uberPOOL trips
For all uberPOOL trips, whatever the surge or Boost multiple is when you accept your first uberPOOL rider, will be applied to any additional riders added to that same trip.
Improved in-app navigation
To fit the unique experience of driving in New York City, we made several feature improvements including:
- Navigation basics: guidance for lane changes, real-time traffic, and rider pickup and dropoff location precision
- Route preview: displaying, in advance, the first turn you should expect after a pickup or dropoff
- Night mode: night-themed maps for evening and late night trips, to give your eyes a break from harsh light
Support policy updates
Your voice matters
We met with and heard from many driver-partners over the past few months through advisory groups, feedback surveys, and in-car conversations. We’re taking a new approach to our support policies.
