Accessibility

Improving the experience to meet all needs

We're excited to share optional accessibility features, which improve both the way the app works for you and the way you'll interact with your riders.

New opportunities

For the deaf and hard-of-hearing community

"When I tell my friends I'm a deaf Uber partner, the first thing they ask is how do I do it?"

-Larry C. Jr.

Key features

1. Flashing trip requests

The Uber Driver app can now signal new trip requests with a flag light in addition to the audio notification.

To turn on flashing trip requests in the Uber Driver app:

  • Open the app's Settings
  • Check the box next to "Use flash for requests"

2. Communication

You can also turn on a setting that changes the way communication works with your riders. This feature will:

  • Turn off calling so riders will text you if they need to provide special instructions for pick-up
  • Add an additional prompt for riders to enter their destination
  • Automatically let riders knw you're deaf or hard of hearing before they get into your car

3. Additional support

We have American Sign Language interpreters available in office hours the first Friday of every month. Feel free to stop by during the hours below for help signing up friends, setting up your account, or with general questions!

Office Location: 1401 W. North Ave, Chicago, IL 60642

ASL Support Available: First Friday, 12-2pm
