Driving at Burlington International Airport (BTV)

Airports can be complicated places, especially for drivers. But knowing the basics, and getting information in advance about your local airport, can help make sure you’re prepared for your first pickup or dropoff.

Airport regulations

  • Driver cancellations: Trip cancellations can take away from the great Uber experience that both riders and driver-partners expect. Please remember that driver-partners who improperly use the app and intentionally disrupt the service, including excessively canceling rides or asking riders to cancel rides, may lose the ability to receive trip requests to and from the airport through the Uber Driver app.
  • Ground transportation and airport security staff: Airport rules are as important as traffic rules. Airports expect Driver-partners to follow the instructions of the airport staff.
  • The Uber vehicle decal (trade dress) must always be displayed on the front passenger windshield facing outward. Driver-partners can obtain this Uber decal by mail by using this form.

How airport trips work

1. Accepting and taking trips happens the same way as usual.

2. The app will show you where your local airport’s approved pickup or dropoff location is. It might be different from where you’d go if you weren’t driving with Uber; airports sometimes have designated zones for Uber and other ridesharing services.

3. If you’re dropping off a rider, you can ask them if their flight is domestic or international and what airline they’re flying, then you can look for signs that match what they tell you.

Pickups at the airport

Uber’s technology uses a first-in-first-out (FIFO) queue. This means that, in order to receive a trip request, driver-partners need to enter a designated waiting area, located within a “FIFO zone”. Driver-partners will then be placed in a virtual queue where the first driver-partner to enter will be the first to receive a trip request.

Partners can also receive trip requests through Re-Match, which allows partners who just completed an airport dropoff to temporarily receive a pickup request without having to go to the Staging Lot. To qualify for Re-Match, partners must complete a dropoff at the airport. If you’re in the terminal and don’t receive a request after a few moments, it means there was no pickup available. If you don’t receive a Re-Match trip, you can still head to the holding lot to wait in the FIFO queue for an airport request.

Dropoffs at the airport

Based on the operating agreement with the airport, riders can be dropped off curbside.
