How to drive with Uber in Germany

Uber is a great way to make money. There are different ways to start driving with Uber. Here’s what you need to know.

Get started

1. Sign up online

Got an email address and a smartphone? Great, now tell us a bit more about yourself and we'll get you started.

2. As driver: Apply for private hire driving license

As a driver, you will need a private hire driving license ("P-Schein"). You will need to complete a medical exam and apply for the license at your local authority.

3. Upload your documents

Time for some paperwork. The following documents are required:

  • National Identity Card / Passport
  • Driving license
  • Profile photo
  • Private hire driving license

As a private hire operator, you also need to upload:

  • Vehicle registration
  • Concession
  • Business registration
  • Tax ID
  • EC card (if you're an individual entrepreneur) or account statement (all other legal entities)

4. Find a fleet or add vehicles

As a driver, you will need to find a fleet to join. As a private hire operator, you can add your vehicles in the app.

5. Activate your account

As a driver, you can get your account activated by watching the onboarding video in the Uber app. If you're a private hire operator, you can activate your account by stopping by your local Greenlight Center.

6. Start driving

If you've completed all the above steps, congratulations! You're ready to activate your account and start making money.

It usually takes 1 to 3 weeks to complete the VAT registration process. This page walks you through the basics.
