About the Role
The Localization Team is seeking an experienced manager to lead our Language Management (LM) team. In this role, you’ll guide the LM team on how to balance on-time delivery with high linguistic quality for global & regional launches, mentor individuals on how to manage localization quality at scale, and be a constant evangelist for localization processes and services within the larger organization.
*Flexibility to work from our Palo Alto office on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and the entire team works from home 1 day per week!*
What You’ll Do
Manage a team of Language Managers, including (but not limited to): Holding 1:1s, setting vision & OKRs for the team, coaching, and handling resource allocation to optimize for business needs
Help develop and execute Uber’s vision for language quality globally
Work closely with localization vendors to ensure scalable processes are in place to support the LM team in the translation, review, and LQA of Uber content
Develop & maintain key relationships with stakeholder managers, leadership, and regional POCs
Identify tool & process gaps that the LM team is facing and work with localization operations and engineering teams to enable support
Bridge the gap between Product, Brand, Marketing, Regional and Operation teams to ensure localization quality
Make our global brand accessible at a local level through content localization
Travel to regions to manage relationships & promote localization best practices
What You’ll Need
Proven track record of high quality localization project/program management or language specialist experience
Minimum 2 years of people management experience
Minimum of 5 years of localization project/program management or language specialist experience in high-tech industry on the client side
BA/BS in Translation, Linguistics, or equivalent practical experience
Experience managing Translation Memories, Glossaries, and Style Guides
Great understanding of localization and internationalization issues across multiple content types
Experience using CAT tools (e.g. Smartling, Idiom WorldServer, Memsource, and Trados), preferrably in a Language Specialist/Manager capacity
Experience localizing various content types such as UI, HC, Marketing, & Legal
Ability to navigate ambiguity, work independently and be able to chart direction of projects/programs for the LM team
Strong analytical and problem solving experience, coupled with excellent business judgment
Very detail-oriented, quality-focused and proactive
Ability to think both strategically and tactically to guide direct reports on how to achieve short & long term goals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple and diverse stakeholders across businesses and leadership levels
Ability to learn new tools/systems quickly
Excellent team player
