About the Role

 

Map data and services are the lifeblood of Uber, underlying every single experience on the platform — from specifying the locations of passengers/cars/food, to estimating travel times, to calculating fares based on time and distance. Uber moves things in the world from A to B, and the Maps team is charged with supply all of the As, Bs, and A→Bs.

 

The Maps team has a substantial presence in the Boulder office, and we’re looking for a seasoned Product Manager to lead the team, including management of both people and projects. Additionally, you would serve as the Product Site Lead for the Boulder office overall, as partner to the Engineering Site Lead, together helping to attract talent and additional company investment at the site.

What You’ll Do

 

  • Lead a team of Product Managers, accountable for vision and leadership across all Maps projects in Boulder. These are projects spanning everything from infrastructure and storage engines, to computer vision augmented reality experiments, to real-world imagery collection efforts and the map data corrections that they enable.
  • Manage, coach, and grow the careers of the Product Managers under you.
  • Grow the Boulder site by facilitating the extension or transfer of more Maps projects to the site.
  • Grow the Boulder site by seeking out and negotiating investment opportunities from other (non-Maps) product areas at Uber, to help diversify the site’s project portfolio.
  • Contribute to wider strategy conversations within Maps, that span beyond just Boulder.

 

What You’ll Need

 

  • Prior experience managing a team of Product Managers, including developing/coaching junior talent.
  • Prior experience working on teams that span multiple sites, including strategy and execution coordination, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner closely with engineering teams. Includes interfacing with folks at multiple levels, from engineering executives down to individual contributors.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to impedance-match to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Bias toward action, collaboration, optimism.
  • Data-driven: you always get the data you need, and you can distill it into an insightful story. Most importantly, you leverage data to drive strategic decisions.
  • Technical skills: Ability to inform and evaluate engineering decisions.
  • User focus: Passionate about making the user experience positive. Unwilling to allow product challenges to impact users negatively.
  • Assertive but diplomatic: The site lead role requires someone who can represent the site as a whole externally, with presence and confidence.
  • Excellent influencing skills at all levels in the organization, acute flexibility in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.
  • You’ll make Uber a great place to work, as a leader and a manager.
  • Organized, self-driven, able to operate independently.

 

Bonus Points If

 

  • Prior experience in GIS or map-related products/fields.
  • Prior experience as a remote site lead, and/or experience interacting with cross-site tech teams.
  • Prior experience actively shaping an inclusive and positive culture for a growing tech team.
