About the Role
The Engineering Manager for Airspace Products will be responsible for creating new Uber products and technologies within the Airspace domain.
What You’ll Do
Manage software engineering for airspace product development, collaborating closely with product, data science, design, other engineering teams within Elevate and across Uber.
Continue building out the software engineering team
Manage a growing team of very strong software engineers by demonstrating deep technical capabilities, leading by example, being a role model and providing accurate, fair and competent assessments for performance evaluations and promotions
Manage the engineering activities to deliver software products on time for near-term milestones while keeping things on track for commercial uberAir operations in 2023
Ensure best practices in software engineering
Play a major role in software design and architecture of the elevate cloud services
Apply the appropriate rigor in software engineering
Manage the team while executing best practices in engineering management in line with Uber’s processes and procedures
Ensure proper coordination with other relevant teams and stakeholders within Uber as well as external stakeholders
What You’ll Need
Technical depth in engineering large scale operational systems
Experience in software design and architecture of large-scale production systems
Extensive experience in scalable systems and creating production systems
Experience building engineering back-ends, service-oriented architectures, and efficient data distribution services
Experience in developing/managing front-ends at different scales including desktop and mobile applications
Experience in software assurance methods
Ability to grasp complex technical concepts and engage with highly-technical business partners to direct design and implementation efforts, as necessary
Strong vision and strategic thinking
Envision the potential full scale of airspace operations supported lay out a framework towards that while meeting near-term requirements
Contribute new ideas and challenge the status quo when appropriate
Work efficiently in a highly scrappy environment as well as a large organization
Be a “practical visionary” who can see the end game and execute a course to get there with many deliverables and key progress milestones along the way.
Team building and engineering management skills to
Form and motivate the team at the different stages of growth
Effectively prioritize the software implementation to meet the most important upcoming milestones
Assess the scope of the work, prioritize, deliver on high priority items and push back on low priority items
Recruit world-class talent to join his/her team and intelligently scale that team over the next few years

Experience in product engineering and implementing safety critical systems
Background in aeronautics and aviation

About the Team
The candidate will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Elevate Cloud Services (Hasrat Godil) and will work closely with the Product Manager, Elevate Cloud Services and Airspace Systems (TBH). The team is primarily located in San Francisco (P70) with some close collaboration in Palo Alto.
