About the Role

 

 

This is a unique opportunity to handle complex legal issues and partner with the NeMo business as we transform the lives of our customers. The newly-formed NeMo legal team currently has an open role for an attorney who will report to NeMo’s Director of U.S. Regulatory.  This position may be based in San Francisco, New York/Brooklyn, or Washington, DC.

What You Will Do


  • Exciting hands-on work on first-of-their-kind regulatory and legislative matters, including drafting comments for regulatory proceedings, analyzing draft legislation and ordinances, and interacting with regulators on behalf of the company to address novel legal issues
  • Crafting language for state bills and local ordinances enabling the deployment of shared mobility devices including e-bikes and scooters
  • Staying up to date on regulatory changes and industry best practices and keeping the business apprised of such changes
  • Identifying regulatory compliance gaps, creating regulatory compliance solutions for the business, and establishing oneself as a reliable internal compliance expert
  • Supporting company positions by developing responses to compliance complaints, investigations, and administrative proceedings
  • Working closely with the market entry, operations, policy, product, safety, insurance and other legal teams at Uber to provide strategic and proactive legal advice on regulatory matters, legislative strategies, and product designs
  • Interpreting laws and regulations that may apply to Uber’s current and future business models, and provide guidance for implementation and ongoing compliance

What You Will Need


  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required;
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of legal practice at a law firm, government regulatory entity, or in-house role
  • Minimum 4 years of experience specifically handling new or evolving technology issues is preferred
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with business teams and calibrate compliant advice and strategy based on a practical approach to risk tolerance
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight to craft strategies and lead initiatives to achieve ambitious regulatory goals before federal, state, or local regulatory bodies (e.g., CPSC, state DMVs, city DOTs)
  • Excellent written skills and ability to present information, including complex legal issues, clearly and concisely; outstanding research, negotiating, and oral advocacy skills
  • Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment; demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly; strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders
  • Appetite for being a key player in a rapidly growing company; flexibility to perform in nimble and rapidly changing and growing environments; adept at scaling
  • Enthusiastic about Uber!
