About the Role
We’re disrupting the transportation world, and with that comes the need for more legal clout. We are currently searching for a Senior Employment Counsel who will manage class action and individual-plaintiff lawsuits and arbitrations, as well as advise our HR and Product groups, and will provide general legal support for Uber’s other Corporate functions (e.g., Facilities, Finance, etc.). This position will report to a Legal Director, Employment and be based at Uber’s HQ in San Francisco.
What You’ll Do
Work as part of the internal team to manage employment litigation, including handling litigation matters and managing outside counsel in class action and single-claimant litigation to administrative hearings (federal and state wage and hour complaints, Unemployment hearings, and Workers’ Compensation litigation)
Provide legal advice to various business groups on all types of employment law matters, including hiring, discipline, and termination, wage and hour rules, disability accommodation, discrimination and harassment issues, OFCCP obligations, trade secret protection, and investigations
Advise the business on a wide variety of current and proposed products
Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of company policies and compliance efforts
Provide training to HR and managers throughout U.S. on employment issues and business ethics
What You'll Need
Practicing attorney with 8+ years of experience in California and federal employment law in a law firm and/or in-house legal department
In-house counsel experience, especially in tech, transportation or delivery, strongly preferred but not required
Experience with employee misclassification issues.
Substantive knowledge and experience in class, collective, representative, and individual-claimant litigation
Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and able to establish effective relationships with all levels of management
High integrity, well-organized, and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, JD required and California bar member preferred
