About the Role
As Director, Chief eDiscovery Counsel, you will lead Uber’s legal team working on eDiscovery and related Information Governance matters around the world and guiding the business on matters of key importance.
What You’ll Do
Lead Uber’s eDiscovery team, including setting global strategic goals for eDiscovery and related information governance matters aligned to the business’ needs and areas of focus.
Define the Company’s eDiscovery procedures and practices, addressing issues related to preservation, retrieval, analysis, and production; advise regarding creation of IT-eDiscovery processes.
Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team, including other areas of the Legal Team and other business functions, to develop and implement Uber’s information governance strategy; provide practical advice and proactive strategic guidance on information governance matters.
Advise the business on potential eDiscovery and other issues arising out of current or planned technologies and retention of business records.
Ensure that the Company maintains best-in-class policies, procedures and technology for the preservation of information subject to Legal Hold.
Train attorneys and paralegals on use of e-discovery systems and help develop and maintain robust quality control systems.
Educate and train business teams on the importance of Legal Holds, communication etiquette, and data security.
Guide and supervise eDiscovery analysts in connection with collection and production of documents.
Serve as the primary Legal team liaison with internal legal-dedicated engineering resources.
Engage and manage outside counsel, including substantive oversight and ensuring budget compliance; manage all eDiscovery resources and spend.
What You’ll Need
At least 12 years of legal experience, including significant time practicing in the areas of eDiscovery and Information Governance at a large law firm, government agency or in-house legal department.
Juris Doctor from an accredited and top tier law school and an active license to practice law in the U.S.
Recognized as a subject matter expert in eDiscovery and Information Governance.
Solid proficiency in industry standard eDiscovery systems, especially Relativity.
Strong ability to influence, strong oral advocacy and presentation abilities, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent business judgment.
Proven track record in leading and managing high-performing teams.
Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high volume environment, and in high profile situations.
