About the Role


This role is part of the global payment operations team powering Uber’s payments platform. We have a focus on building processes to scale efficiently, to execute against our acceptance, cost, and risk KPIs, and to improve the customer experience. Ideal candidates are process-oriented and results-driven. This role provides an opportunity to greatly impact our operations and partnerships to grow our payments offering globally. You will have the support of world class cross-functional teams within Product, Engineering, Strategic Finance, Business Development, Operations, and Legal teams to design and build tools supporting the next generation of payments on our core infrastructure.


Uber’s strength in payments is a core strategic differentiator supported by a dedicated and experienced global team of payments professionals. Payments is central to every experience customers have on the Uber platform. From taking a trip to requesting real-time earnings, payments plays a critical role in ensuring a seamless experience.


This role will focus on our payments acceptance and optimization efforts. We accept multiple types of cards across networks and geographies, we have our own Uber Card, and we also accept alternatives like wallets and cash. This individual will provide on-the-ground support of our payment operations and partnerships.

What You’ll Do

  • Forge new and enhance existing global payments relationships; identify and execute on opportunities for performance improvement and cost savings with payment providers
  • Identify, size, prioritize, and pursue opportunities that improve our payments platform in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Analytics
  • Define, track, analyze, and own payments related performance metrics
  • Design onboarding and account management procedures for new and existing payment connections in partnership with Engineering, Risk, and Accounting
  • Stay up to date and informed on developments in the payments space, from regulatory trends, new payment methods and players, changes at the card networks, and other changes impacting Uber’s payments business
  • Work across internal and external stakeholders to help define Uber’s approach and strategy around payments


What You’ll Need

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience at a top-tier consulting firm, investment bank, or technology company
  • Some experience and a strong interest in building e-commerce capabilities at an online, e-commerce, or marketplace merchant
  • Knowledge of card fee structures and network costs, in addition to an understanding of merchant categories, benchmarking, and merchant KPIs
  • Ability to lean in and set up a market from scratch, understand card acquiring considerations, able to connect the dots globally with other payment methods
  • Knowledge of card-not-present payments and alternatives
  • Critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and program management skills. You’re easily able to break a problem down into its constituent parts to identify the best solution forward
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced dynamic environment – we have no shortage of asks but limited time. You need to be able to effectively assess, prioritize, and execute autonomously
  • Ability to balance needs of multiple stakeholder groups, setting expectations, and keeping internal and external partners aligned with Uber’s strategic priorities
  • Highly analytical approach to approaching complex payments challenges in a two-sided marketplace
  • SQL skills and leveraging data to deep dive issues or to support a business case

As part of the Global Payments Acceptance team, you will scale our payments technology and infrastructure across the org to empower our riders and eaters. You will play a key role in all aspects of strategic payments planning and make significant contributions to high-profile operational initiatives.
