Uber is a game-changing company that allows riders to make on-demand pre-bookings via the Uber platform with a touch of their smartphone for quality transportation services provided by partner drivers. We are in over 400 + cities worldwide, including in over 70 cities in over 40 countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
We are currently searching for a talented lawyer to join as Associate Counsel Privacy with expertise in EU and global data protection laws, as well as a good understanding of criminal procedure law and law enforcement. You will report to the Legal Director Privacy - EMEA and be based at Uber’s EMEA HQ in Amsterdam. However, you’ll also be expected to be willing to travel across the region where needed. WHAT YOU’LL DO
Be the legal liaison for our Law Enforcement Response Team and advise them on data requests from various law enforcement authorities.
Follow up on multi-jurisdictional data requests by law enforcement- and other enforcement agencies or authorities and be willing to be a point of contact for such agencies
Create policies and guidelines for data requests and multi-jurisdictional issues when it comes to law enforcement, and operationalize them
Provide data protection law trainings across the EMEA region, in particular on data sharing issues
Advise on data protection and privacy aspects to the business in general and during development of new security related products and initiatives
Do research on due process and criminal procedure law and advise on impact for the business
And although the role focuses on data requests, you’ll be just as much involved in privacy in general as the other team members, which includes product reviews, compliance and regulatory work, contracts and DPAs, investigations, and much more...
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
At least 2 years post-qualification experience at a top-notch law firm or in-house
Strong academic credentials and law degree from a top law school or university
In house experience a plus
Substantive knowledge of data protection, consumer protection and marketing regulations
Knowledge of criminal procedure law and law enforcement is a plus
Excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
To be able to think on your feet and make quick, but smart, decisions
Thrive in high impact/high profile situations
Fluent in written and spoken English (Dutch is a plus)
