About the Role
Uber is changing the world, and the Uber Legal Team is proud to be part of that. We’re looking for exceptional legal professionals to join our Emerging Technologies legal team in San Francisco or Pittsburgh.
What You’ll Do
Serve as a front-line attorney advising teams Uber ATG’s Product teams. You will advise on legal issues related to product design, human experience, and consumer protection.
You will support a dynamic organization of product managers, software and hardware engineers, designers, deal makers, and operations specialists who are responsible for bringing the products of the future to reality.
Find and resolve wide-ranging legal issues relating to the business, including issues such as: consumer protection, data privacy, litigation risk, regulatory, intellectual property, and antitrust, transactional and commercial law, licensing, and intellectual property.
You will work directly with business clients to provide on-the-ground support and identify potential legal issues.
Act as a legal generalist while providing specialist support to clients and legal members in selected areas of expertise.
You will provide legal support to your clients by resolving matters directly, working with other Emerging Technology team members, and collaborating with members of the larger legal team.
Provide specialised support to Emerging Technology team members and to clients regarding legal subjects within your personal expertise. For example, an Emerging Technologies team member could preferably provide advice in one of the following subject areas:
Large joint-development agreements and partnerships
Testing and operation of vehicle fleets across multiple jurisdiction
Software and copyright matters (including licensing, open source, and code health issues)
Regulatory and administrative law matters, such as FAA certification requirements and airspace restrictions or state and federal motor vehicle laws and regulations
Hardware design, manufacturing, and sourcing across a multi-tiered supply chain
Cross-border transactions, including international manufacturing arrangements
Products liability and automotive safety issues;
Relationships with public and private standard-setting organizations
Act as a member of the product teams that you advise; serving as the primary point of contact for legal issues for that team, collaborating closely with others in Legal to get solid advice for your teams, and solving legal problems quickly for the team you support.
Review products, features, and initiatives to assess legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch.
What You’ll Need
J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required
Minimum of four (4) years of legal experience in a combination of law firm and in-house settings
Product counsel experience preferred
Experience working for an engineering-driven technology company preferred
Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly
Appetite for being a key player in a rapidly growing company
Genuine interest in new technologies. Bonus points for a technical background and a willingness to get into the weeds with engineers and other clients!
History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel
Global perspective with experience in matters involving multiple nations
Flexibility to perform in nimble, and rapidly changing and growing environments; adept at scaling
Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address
Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders
Ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly, and concisely
Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others
