About the team


We are looking for someone to join the product team for Core Services, based in San Francisco and Palo Alto. The team consists of nearly 40 people across product and engineering, dedicated to key core areas: Users, Organizations, Vehicles, Order Platform and Search. The team's scope is global, serving our customers across all lines of businesses including Ride Sharing, UberEats, U4B, Rentals, Fleets, Freight, ATG, and new modalities. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help us shape transportation and mobility industry of the future.


The Core Services team builds, scales and maintains the software services that define the core components of Uber: users, vehicles, orgs, orders & trips. In addition, we provide internal interfaces and tools to conveniently and efficiently access and manage this core data.


The User platform team is central to everything at Uber. This platform manages the end to end life cycle of a user at Uber. The user platform is working on the next generation of the user platform to standardize the user entity, allows a user to have any role, easily extend the user and make it available across all the downstream platforms like Customer support, Risk, Fraud, and marketing. The team is also working on a unified profile management system to provide a global View of the user across the Uber Ecosystem to power context-aware personalized experiences and targeting.


The Organization platform team is working on Organizations as first-class entities at Uber. This platform manages the organization, hierarchy and location management, membership, roles, and permissions.


The Vehicle platform team provides a comprehensive platform for modeling & serving workflows for every vehicle and asset on the Uber platform.


The Order platform team is the central order processing. The Order platform team provides a standardized data model and interfaces that is extensible across all domains for all phases of the order lifecycle for any lines of business.


The Search platform team provide a real-time, low latency and highly available search for all of the online data stores at Uber including Users, Organizations, Vehicles & Trips.


The Core Services team is working on fundamental platform building blocks that are helping drive Uber's vision for Transportation As A Service - TAAS, at a global scale.

What You’ll Do


  • Internalize and deeply understand Uber’s mission and strategies.
  • Shape and own objectives, KPIs and roadmap for Uber’s Core Services platform.
  • Build a truly scalable ecosystem that unlocks company-wide innovation.
  • Driving execution of the Platform team roadmap by clearly defining and communicating the roadmap and priority, and ensuring that your team has the critical inputs to ship features on time with high quality.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Uber’s various businesses and customer needs to inform our Platform strategy.


What You’ll Need


  • 5+ years experience delivering highly successful and innovative consumer Internet or platform products with your fingerprints all over them - you’re extremely proud of what you’ve accomplished.
  • A computer science degree or equivalent, preferably including hands-on software engineering experience. Technical understanding must go from the highest abstractions down to the metal.
  • Experience building robust APIs/Gateways is a huge plus.
  • Strong technical competence - ability to speak knowledgeably and provide perspective on highly technical projects.
  • Extremely analytical, experience leveraging data to drive strategy, priority, and execution
  • Strong communication skills that build and foster cross-team collaboration and alignment on key outcomes and objectives.
