About the Role Uber is changing the world, and the Uber Legal Team is proud to be part of that. We’re looking for an exceptional legal professional to join our Emerging Technologies legal team. The Emerging Technologies legal team supports Uber’s cutting edge business units, which include self-driving vehicles (Uber ATG) and vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft (Uber Elevate).
What You'll Do
Provide legal support on regulatory legal issues to Uber’s Elevate team and public policy team. You will support a dynamic organization of operations and safety professionals, aircraft and other hardware experts, product managers, and public policy team members who are responsible for bringing the concept of on-demand aviation to reality.
Identify, research and analyze wide-ranging aviation regulatory legal challenges at the local, federal and international levels.
Review products, features, and initiatives to assess legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch.
Provide support to variety of legal regulatory efforts, ranging from reviewing proposed rules and drafting comments, reviewing and analyzing proposed legislation, advising on standards development activities, and otherwise contributing to efforts to obtain necessary authorizations from relevant government agencies. You will work directly with senior attorneys as well as business clients to provide on-the-ground support and identify potential legal issues.
Conduct legal research and analysis to respond to operations, safety and product team questions about the requirements of applicable laws as it relates to product development, and operational strategies.
Act as a legal generalist while providing specialist support to clients and legal members in selected areas of expertise.
What You'll Need
6+ years of experience in private practice and/or in-house role.
J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required.
Excellent written skills and ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly, and concisely
Experience working for an engineering-driven technology company preferred.
Experience with aviation regulatory issues or legal issues in other highly regulated industries.
Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly.
Appetite for being a key player in a rapidly growing company.
Genuine interest in new technologies. Bonus points for a technical background and a willingness to get into the weeds with engineers and other clients!
History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel.
Global perspective with experience in matters involving multiple nations.
Flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments; highly adaptable paired with attention to scaling.
Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address.
Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders.
Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others.
