About the Role
The Director of Safety, New Mobility (JUMP) will drive the overall safety strategy for Uber’s New Mobility team with a focus on electric shared bikes and scooters. This role reports to the VP of Safety and Insurance and will be responsible for the overall safety experience for all our new mobility projects, including JUMP bikes and scooters, as well as future projects, and will be a key member of the New Mobility leadership team
Areas of focus include:
Product Safety (safety considerations related to design, testing, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance)
Safety programs (user education, training, public commitments and partnerships)
Safety protocols (incident response and support)
This role requires a highly versatile and well rounded leader, someone who can create and drive strategy, and is constantly developing practical solutions in a very fast moving new business area.
What You’ll Do
Build a team covering all areas of safety for JUMP with specialists in key areas such as product safety, safety policies and safety initiatives.
Define, lead, and operationalize the short-term and long-term strategy for establishing JUMP as a leader in safety
Identify areas for operational improvements by regularly evaluating all aspects of our JUMP product and operations
Build and develop strong relationships with cross-functional leaders including Operations, Policy, Marketing, Legal, Hardware, Customer Support, Quality, and Supply Chain as the advocate for safety throughout the product experience
Integrate the JUMP safety strategy with the safety strategy for Uber’s other businesses (e.g, Rides, Eats)
Set the cultural tone of the team and develop a strong culture of continuous improvement to consistently raise the bar of execution
What You'll Need
10+ years of work experience with at least 3 years of experience that is relevant to safety
Experience with public policy, consumer product testing, safety advocacy, shared mobility, road safety, or transportation all plusses
Strong people management skills and experience leading teams. You can set the tone for your team and drive towards results, while being empathetic to your teams' challenges.
Analytical Thinking. Data-driven mentality and strong business judgment. Able to roll up your sleeves and analyze the data and derive key insights for your team.
A creative, solutions focused approach, with a focus on achieving results.
Strong interpersonal skills. Able to build and manage strong relationships with their team, cross-functional colleagues, and external partners.
An entrepreneurial mindset.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills. Able to communicate and listen effectively; great written, verbal and presentation skills.
A passion for bikeshare, JUMP, and safety. Passionate about the overall goals of bike share, micro-mobility devices, and sustainable transportation.
BA/BS with impressive academic record. Advanced degree a plus.
