About the Role
Uber is changing the world, and the Uber Legal Team is proud to be part of that. We’re looking to hire an exceptional attorney with expertise in payments and financial services to join the Uber Legal Team. You will report to Uber’s Chief Payments Counsel and will be based at Uber’s office in San Francisco.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Work closely with the Payments Legal Team on payments and financial services legal matters for Uber and its entities in the United States and Canada
Set strategy and provide leadership on Uber’s licenses and registrations for payments activities
Support Uber as it expands its global payments compliance infrastructure
Advise business teams on payments legal issues, risks, and opportunities with focus on financial services regulations, consumer protection, AML, KYC and sanctions.
Stay abreast of financial regulations that could impact Uber’s business model and growth
WHAT YOU ARE
A minimum of 8 years experience with preference for mix of in- house and law firm background
Knowledge of the laws and regulations that regulate payments and other types of financial transactions
Experience advising regulated payment entities and supporting payments compliance programs
Understanding of legal principles applicable to payments and risk, including the payments ecosystem (e.g., the role of acquiring and issuing banks, card networks, payment processors, gateways, risk vendors, etc.), regulatory implications (e.g., stored value, money transmission and escrow licensing and compliance obligations, CFPB actions, escheatment, international regulatory issues) and consumer protection laws
Knowledge of major payment network rules and processes and experience dealing with major payment networks
Strong regulatory background
Strong academic credentials and law degree from a top law school
Qualified attorney and Member of the California Bar (in good standing) or eligible to register as California Registered In-House Counsel
Possess excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
