Uber is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our Communications team to lead our content platform. Uber faces extraordinarily complex challenges with communications technologies around the globe. Uber’s communications team focuses on systems for email, SMS, push notifications, in-app messaging, web publishing, and other forms of communication between Uber and its users. Not only does our team work on the low-level APIs for these communications channels, but we also own the products that Uber’s distributed marketing team uses to communicate with our end users around the globe.
The content platform team is solving difficult problems such as:
How can we ensure that Uber users have a consistent experience interacting with Uber across all publishing channels?
How can we scale a system that can send uniquely personalized content to all of our users in minutes?
Uber users in Bangalore, India are quite different than those in Santiago, Chile - how can we automatically adapt our content and our tools to fit their needs?
How can we build simple yet powerful front ends for the global Uber team to understand our users and deliver the content they want when they actually want it?
What we’re looking for:
Technical skills- We’re hands-on managers. We review and/or write code on a regular basis. We go on call with our team. We participate in architectural discussions and decision making with our team.
Product mindset -While a huge portion of our work is reasoning around technical challenges, our managers need a good product sense. The communications we work on touch millions of users every day - we need to keep the experience beautiful and intuitive for them.
Leadership- You’re more than just an organizer and architect; you’re a leader. You know how to set a vision and rally your team behind it. You know how to motivate your team towards key milestones.
