Engineering Manager II, Developer Infrastructure
About The Role
We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager to lead Uber's Dev Infra space within Developer Platform, through its next journey of scalability and efficiency due to exponential growth driven by AI agentic adoption. This team owns Uber’s core development infrastructure, enabling CI (Continuous Integration), Remote Dev Environment, Emulators leveraged daily by thousands of Uber engineers to ship code.
The mission of the Developer Platform org is to empower engineers at Uber to build reliable, scalable software-efficiently and without friction. The Dev Infra team plays a critical role in that mission by providing the underlying infrastructure running on cloud environments like GCP/OCI and orchestrated by K8.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute the long-term technical and organizational strategy for common dev infrastructure to power different workloads at Uber such as Remote Dev Environments for engineers and AI agents, CI, Cloud Emulators, Remote Build Cache /Remote Build Execution.
- Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers focused on enabling best-in-class scalable, cost efficient and reliable dev infra.
- Partner with CI, Build, Development Environment, Testing teams
- Ensure Uber’s developer experience is scalable, performant, and delightful for engineers across Uber.
- Foster a strong culture of engineering excellence, mentorship, and collaboration.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years of engineering management experience.
- Strong backend in building developer infrastructure/developer experience, ideally with experience in GCP/OCI Kubernetes (K8).
- Rich experience in building and maintaining developer-facing systems, tools, or platforms - Continuous Integration (CI), Build, Test
- Proven ability to lead teams building scalable internal platforms and services.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence without authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on or with developer platform teams at scale.
- Deep familiarity with the developer infrastructure in areas such as cost optimisation, fail-over, observability & security.
- Experience with RBC/RBE (Remote Build Cache & Remote Build Execution)
- Experience with tools like Buildkite, Buildbarn & Bazel
- Experience with Remote Dev Environments like GitHub Codespaces, Gitpod
- Exposure to Bazel, Buildkite, or other build/test/deploy frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with GenAI - Claude, Gemini
- Contributions to open source or leadership in developer tooling communities.
