Driver screening

Everyone who drives with Uber is screened before their first trip.¹ In addition, Uber reruns these driver screenings² at least every year and uses technology to look for issues in between. It’s part of our commitment to help keep you safe when you request a ride with Uber.

Drivers are background checked before their first trip

Prospective drivers must undergo a multi-step safety screen that checks for issues including, but not limited to, driving violations, impaired driving, and a criminal record.

Drivers must pass an annual check to continue accessing the app

Uber proactively reruns driving and criminal history checks every year to ensure that drivers continue to meet our standards.

Assuming someone else’s identity is prohibited

Drivers are periodically asked to take a photograph of themselves, which we match against their on-file identification to help make sure the right driver is behind the wheel.

We enforce our Community Guidelines

Uber reviews all reports submitted to our customer support team that may violate our Community Guidelines. Not following any of our guidelines may result in the loss of access to your Uber accounts.

Your feedback helps create a safe and respectful community

A high rating recognizes people’s efforts, while a low rating can provide helpful feedback. And repeated low ratings can result in deactivation.
