Victoria

Does your vehicle qualify to drive with Uber? Most four-door cars do, but requirements vary by vehicle option.

Minimum requirements

To drive with Uber in Victoria, your vehicle must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 4-door vehicle with 5 seats
  • Vehicle year must be 9 years or newer
  • Good condition with no cosmetic damage
  • No commercial branding
  • No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
  • Pass a commercial vehicle inspection by an authorized inspection facility.

 

Insurance

Uber is working with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) to maintain insurance coverage on behalf of rideshare drivers operating in British Columbia. See details here.

 

Uber Sticker

Under local regulations for British Columbia, all drivers must display Uber stickers on their vehicle while online. Place one on your front windshield on the passenger side, and the other on your rear windshield on the driver side, both facing outward.

Not displaying Uber stickers can result in fines.

UberX

Most newer cars qualify to drive with UberX, our most popular option for riders.

Additional requirements:

  • 4-door vehicle with 5 seats
  • No full-sized vans or trucks
  • No taxi cabs, government cars, or commercially marked vehicles

UberXL

Seat more passengers — and earn higher fares — with your high-capacity vehicle.

Additional requirements:

  • 4-door SUV or minivan with independently opening doors
  • Seat at least 6 passengers in addition to the driver
  • No full-sized vans or trucks
  • No taxi cabs, government cars, or commercially marked vehicles

Most SUVs qualify to drive with UberXL. See our list of popular models, but others may qualify.

Uber stickers

Under local regulations for British Columbia, all drivers must display Uber stickers on their vehicle while online. Place one on your front windshield on the passenger side and the other on your rear windshield on the driver side, both facing outward. You can remove them when you decide to go offline and save them for the next time. Pro tip: keep the paper it comes with to place your sticker on when not in use.

Once you become a driver on the Uber platform, we will mail out your stickers. You should receive them within 7 business days. If you ever need new stickers after you become a driver, you can request new ones be mailed to you.
