|Uber’s mission is to connect everyone to safe, reliable rides that arrive within minutes at the tap of a button. We know that riders with disabilities face a variety of problems accessing on-demand transportation in Salt Lake City. And while these problems are not unique to our city, there is more that can be done and Uber is proud to be a part of the solution.
Uber Utah is proud to announce the launch of UberWAV, which will allow those needing access to wheelchair accessible vehicles to request safe and reliable rides at the tap of a button. To celebrate, we had Andrew Riggle & Eliza McIntosh take the first UberWAV ride this morning in Salt Lake City. Andrew is a public policy advocate with the Disability Law Center and has been instrumental to getting WAV launched in Utah. Eliza was recently crowned Ms. Wheelchair Utah and is planning on breaking the world record for the longest “wheelie” in a wheelchair; she intends to do a 20 mile wheelie! “For me, I’m pretty independent, but this is just the next level of independence and freedom of movement for anyone with a disability. We can go anywhere, just like everyone else,” said Riggle. “I think it’s awesome! This is just one less barrier for people with disabilities,” added McIntosh.
HOW TO REQUEST AN UBERWAV:
1. Open your Uber app.
We’re dedicated to increasing the mobility, efficiency and freedom of all riders and drivers with accessibility needs here in Utah and are proud to offer this service to the citizens of the Salt Lake region. A special thanks to our partner, the Medical Transport Company; without their vehicles and drivers this would not be possible.
