Uber Freight supports communities during the Texas power crisis

Uber Freight supports communities during the Texas power crisis

After days of extreme winter storms swept across the US in February, Texas was among the places hit the hardest. The state faced a massive electricity generation failure, resulting in millions of homes and businesses left without power, and shortages of water, food, and heat statewide.

Without power to operate water treatment plants, local officials across the state were forced to issue boil-water notices to residents. At one point in mid-February, 15 million people in Texas, including in the Houston, Arlington, and Fort Worth areas, needed to boil their tap water to make sure it was safe to consume.

As officials and agencies combatted the critical water, energy, and weather challenges, Uber Freight acted quickly to support partners working to get clean water, meals, and other vital supplies to those in need. Within a few days, Uber Freight had committed to move loads of donated supplies for free to Texas, as well as affected areas in Mississippi and Oklahoma. In total, Uber Freight helped move more than 100,000 gallons of water and other supplies donated by organizations like Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) and the Salvation Army.

Since 1991, CHF has worked on a global scale to equip local leaders and volunteers to deliver food to children and families who need it most. As one of the many nonprofits that mobilized to support communities throughout the power crisis, CHF helped provide water to its school, church, and nonprofit partners who work directly with those in need in Dallas/Fort Worth, Edinburg, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“At Children’s Hunger Fund, we’ve made it our mission to deliver hope to suffering children by providing food and other resources to communities in need,” says Dave Phillips, Founder and President of Children’s Hunger Fund. “We’re thankful to have support from organizations like Uber Freight to help us live out our mission, especially during unprecedented natural disasters like the winter storm Texas experienced in February.”

Uber Freight’s mission is to simplify the movement of goods to help communities thrive. This leads us to build innovative products for our customers and drives us to partner with organizations that are supporting communities facing crises, from extreme weather to the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
