Support Portland Metro Area schools this summer

June 20, 2016 / Portland

This summer, we supported teachers in our community who also drive with Uber. Riders were alerted in the app when they were on a trip with a teacher, and 3% of Uber’s portion of their fare went back to the UberEDUCATOR’s classroom.

It gets even better. The school whose teachers took the most trips this summer received an extra $5000 to support teachers and students.

Here’s how the program works:

Look for the school books icon next to your driver’s name when you take your next trip. For each ride, 3% of your fare will go to your UberEDUCATOR’S classroom. The school whose teachers have the most trips wins $5,000 for their school.

Meet Your Uber EDUCATOR winner:
Sam Freshner Jr, Sabin Schellenberg Center

Sam Freshner is a Criminal Justice and CSI Teacher for Sabin Schellenberg Center. After years serving in the army and as a police officer in Oregon, Sam became a teacher to inspire young people to be the best they can be. As the school’s Skills USA advisor, he’s doing exactly that each and every day. With Uber, Sam says he’s able to “make all kinds of new discoveries, such as meeting new people and places whenever I hit the road.” As the top UberEDUCATOR this summer, Sam received $5K for his school and $309 for his classroom which will be used to fund a trip to the state and national competition for his entire class.

Congratulations Sam!

We’re honored to continue to work with educators like Sam Freshner through the UberEDUCATOR program. Thanks for riding and supporting your local teachers!
