Summer is almost over and, with it, so are summer vacations. But there’s no need to fret just because your break is coming to an end — there is a whole slew of attractions in the Bay Area to help you gear up for the start of the fall semester. Here are some of our favorite Bay Area activities to fill your social calendar for the next couple of weeks.

What to do in Berkeley and Oakland

True to the artisan style, their stock is made in small batches to ensure you get the freshest sweets possible. Check out some of their most creative flavors from a menu of eleven options that change daily.

4. La Val’s

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention La Val’s in a list compiled in the back-to-school spirit. La Val’s is a staple pie show in university circles, serving pizzas, pasta, sandwiches, salads, as well as micro brews. As a bonus, there’s a playhouse in the basement, a TV that’s usually screening sports games, and a pool table to pass the time. Dog-owners: feel free to bring your dog along to rest in the shaded patio.

5. Bette’s Ocean View Diner

Bette’s is landmark family-owned-and-operated diner specializing in homemade dishes made using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The concept is simple: create a laid back location where patrons feel at home. Bette’s classic diner décor, inspired menu, and atmosphere create an experience you don’t want to miss. If you’re a fan of tunes, you’ll love the tasteful selection of music that’s always playing from a jukebox with a rotating records list curated by their resident DJ.

6. Cheeseboard

The Cheeseboard Collective houses two establishments: a pizzeria and a cheese and bakery counter featuring an espresso bar. The cheese counter’s selection contains 400 types of cheese from local and European sources. Before you go to the pizzeria, check the website to find out what their pizza of the day is, since they only serve one daily flavor.

7. Eureka!

Eureka! is a sports bar that offers a divine dining experience specializing in American-style cuisine. Whether you’re in the mood for nachos, corndogs, pizzas, or burgers, you’ll find it here. We recommend trying any of their signature dishes: truffle cheese fries, chicken nachos, or the jalapeno egg burger.

8. Fentons Creamery

Fentons is a traditional eatery and ice cream parlor dating back to the late 1800s. Their ice cream selection combines original legacy recipes and innovative modern flavors crafted from fresh milk. Although they are best known for their ice cream and delicious sundaes, they also serve a variety of grilled sandwiches, burgers, and salads.
