Uber Celebrates Second Annual Car Free Day NYC with Free UberPOOL Rides for First-Time Riders

April 21, 2017 / New York City

Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day, but it’s also the second annual Car Free Day NYC. We’re partnering with NYC Council Transportation Chair Ydanis Rodriguez to celebrate in a big way.

This year, Uber riders who haven’t previously tried uberPOOL can ride for free if they choose to share their ride (up to a $15 value) in all 5 boroughs using the code CarFreeNYC17.

The mission of Car Free Day NYC is to encourage New Yorkers who ride solo to choose alternative means of moving around the city, and we want to do our part by encouraging New Yorkers to share their rides using uberPOOL.

Launched in NYC in August 2014, uberPOOL makes up a quarter of Uber trips in New York City. Not only can it be up to 50% cheaper than uberX, but uberPOOL helps get more people into fewer cars — making the option good for people’s wallets and good for their cities.

We thank NYC Council Transportation Chair Ydanis Rodriguez for starting this important initiative. He celebrated our partnership this year by saying, “Once again, Uber is stepping up on Car Free Day, this year offering an innovative service to New Yorkers at no cost to help mitigate congestion and pollution on our streets. More people in fewer cars is good for business, good for the environment, and good for New York City.”
