Thanksgiving Eve is one of the busiest drinking nights of the year and marks the beginning of the holiday season (when there is a known increase in instances of impaired driving). That’s why we’ve partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to combat drunk driving by offering free rides up to $15 across Staten Island, the Greater Boston area, and Rhode Island.*
“Thanksgiving Eve serves as the kickoff to the holiday season, but this time of joyous celebration can serve as a catalyst for drunk driving tragedies,” said Mary Kate Depamphilis, Program Director, MADD Massachusetts. “We are asking people to plan ahead and leave your car at home. By making Uber your designated driver, you are doing your part to help end drunk driving and make our roads safer.”
“Two-thirds of Americans will be impacted by drunk driving in some way, shape or form during their lifetimes,” said Eric Creamer, Executive Director of MADD Rhode Island. “MADD Rhode Island is proud to join forces with Uber, our MADD Massachusetts sister organization and other local leaders to convince residents to celebrate responsibly and keep our roads safe.”
To unlock one free ride up to $15 on Thanksgiving Eve, Boston residents can enter the promo code “SAFERIDEMA18” into the Uber app by navigating to the menu, tapping Payment, and then Add Promo / Gift Code. Rhode Island residents should use the promo code “SAFERIDERI18.”
This discount is available between 9pm on Wednesday, November 21st through 6am on Thursday, November 22nd. Availability is limited.
Staten Island residents get two free rides up to $15 each, available from 8pm Wednesday, November 21 to 5am Thursday, November 22. Valid only on trips starting and ending on Staten Island. Staten Island residents can enter the promo code “SAFERIDESI18” in their Uber app to redeem the discount.
According to MADD Massachusetts’s 2016 data, 31 percent of all traffic fatalities in the state were due to impaired driving, resulting in 119 annual drunk driving deaths.
