From the Hollywood legend Mystic Pizza to the renowned aquarium, the quaint seaport of Mystic is worth a visit. The aquarium boasts sea animals of all kinds including beluga whales, African penguins, and numerous species of sharks. After your visit to the aquarium, take a stroll down Main Street for a unique assortment of local boutiques.

Formally known as Gillette Castle, this landmark was once home to William Gillette, famous for his portrayal as the original Sherlock Holmes. The castle is full of mystery fit for Sherlock, from hidden rooms to secret passageways. Pro tip: visit the site by boat for the best views of the estate.

Forget New York pizza; it’s all about New Haven-style pizza. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana claims to be the “best pizza in America,” and the line wrapping around the block is evidence to that fact. Or, stop by Sally’s Apizza for another mouthwatering New Haven gem, but be warned that Sally’s commands a line of its own as well.

Connecticut is home to a number of Native American reservations, some of which have become home to a few renowned casinos.
