The Philippines is a crucial customer support hub for Uber. From our two Centers of Excellence (COE’s) in the heart of Metro Manila and Pampanga, near Clark, our agents work round the clock to support millions of customers across the Asia Pacific region, and around the world, with issues or questions on any topic.
To learn more about our COE’s in the Philippines, we sat down with Darren Belcher, APAC’s Head of Real Estate and Workplace, to find out more about our facilities and give you a sneak peek inside.
Where are the Uber offices in the Philippines?
“Uber’s Manila COE in the financial district of Bonifacio Global City, Taguig spanning across four floors. Opening in 2015, it is home to over 1,000 Community Operations employees, one of our largest globally. The office tower is actually attached to a mall which gives a unique design aesthetic–it looks like a standing snake from afar with the office tower as its head!
Our Clark COE opened in 2019 and is located in Skytech IT Park, near the dynamic business district of Clark, home to almost 500 customer service specialists. While technically located in Malabacat, Pampanga, our Clark COE is named after the closest port of entry following a tradition in Uber offices around the world and provides an easy landmark reference for our worldwide operations.”
What’s the favorite amenity among employees?
“Both offices boast a wide range of facilities such as collaboration spaces, games rooms, privacy phone booths, showers and even a snooze room!
Our games room is definitely the favorite space amongst our Manila team. We have foosball, gaming consoles, table tennis and karaoke for everyone to enjoy. It’s also a multipurpose area that can be set up for happy hours, all hands meetings, celebrations, training and any other office-wide gatherings. It really is the heart of our office.
The cafeteria is of course a favorite in both offices and is a welcoming space for everyone to come together over a meal. We also have other areas near the workstations with comfortable chairs and communal tables for socializing while having a snack or coffee. We provide a hearty healthy delicious lunch options featuring local fare and snacks throughout the day which are well loved by both teams. Who doesn’t love a free snack?”
How does the office design support Uber’s hybrid work philosophy?
“In the Philippines, most of our employees work on a hybrid setup where within each team we have two groups who alternate between working from the office and from home on a week by week basis. Within our other support teams, people spend 50% of their time working in the office with anchor days on Tuesday and Thursday. The offices are open 24/7 so maintaining cleanliness at all times while continuing to provide a functioning workspace is a top priority. We also have workstations reserved for eWFO (emergency work from office) in case there are power or internet issues at home.”
How has Uber created an inclusive workplace?
“Both offices provide inclusive and safe work environments such as a gender neutral restroom, wellness spaces, nursing and prayer rooms. Celebrating workplace diversity is a big part of life at Uber in the Philippines and allows employees to learn and appreciate other team members, these include Pride month, Women at Uber, Parents at Uber and many more! Our Uber values are also showcased throughout the office as a visual reminder of what we stand for.”
