Get a license for the taxi business in Austria

With millions of riders all over the world, Uber is a great way to make money — but first you need a licensed taxi company to operate as a fleet partner in Austria.

Apply for your license

Responsible office

  • Inform yourself online or in person at the responsible office (MA63 and WKO)

To start a taxi business, you’ll need the following:

  • Financial capacity
  • Licensed vehicles
  • Managing director with proven qualifications

To start with Uber, you’ll also need the following:

  • Valid document (passport, ID, residence permit)
  • GISA request document
  • Trade license
  • ATU number
  • Bank details (company account)
  • Licenses of taxi vehicles

Please upload the original documents to your Uber account.

Create a profile as an entrepreneur

If you haven't created an Uber account yet, do so at partners.uber.com. Fill in the information needed and then add documents, drivers and vehicles and then proceed with the following steps:

1. Upload documents

Upload your documents. See below ("What documents to entrepreneurs need") to know which documents entrepreneurs need to upload.

4. Bank account information

Add your bank account information under “Banking”: company name and account details. They need to be exactly the same as on your bank statement (document "Bankomatkarte oder Kontoauszug").

2. Wait for activation

Please wait for your documents and profile to be activated. This can take up to 24 hours. Only after the activation you can proceed with the steps 3 and 4.

3. Company details

As soon as your profile is active, log in to partners.uber.com. Under “Invoices> Invoice Settings” add the company name, the address of the company headquarters and the VAT number.

Drivers and cars

Create new drivers

First, you need to create an account for your driver, after which you can add the documents to their profile. You can find detailed guidelines for creating drivers and uploading their documents here:

Create new vehicles

A detailed overview of how you can add vehicles to your Uber account can be found here. Please note that we currently only include electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs) with a battery range of 50 km or more.

Add drivers who already have an Uber profile

The driver needs to switch to your fleet himself. He can do this directly in his app or on help.uber.com: "Help > Account and Payment > Managing drivers and fleet > I want to switch my Fleet Partner"
