Our commitments

Making movement equal for all.

We know that, for centuries, access to movement—to safe places, better choices, healthcare, work opportunities, the same rights—has been unequal. Today movement is still a privilege, not a right.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. We believe that movement can be a force for disruption. Since Uber started, we’ve proven this time and time again. Now, in the wake of COVID and its exacerbating effect on inequalities around the world, it’s time to be clear about our ambition: making movement equal for all.

This goes back to our core mission: we constantly, relentlessly reimagine the way the world moves for the better. In doing so, we make movement possible. We enable people to find flexible work. We empower businesses to reach new customers. We move essential goods by the truckload.

We haven’t always gotten things right. But we’re committed to moving forward, in a better direction for people and the planet. We develop and implement programs in more than 50 countries across the globe, building strong relationships with communities through our global impact network.

To realize our bigger ambition and make movement equal for all, there are 4 individual, societal, and environmental challenges that we seek to address:

Economic empowerment

We believe in better work. In the US, we’ve championed a new approach to platform work, one in which flexibility does not have to come at the cost of the protections that drivers and delivery people seek. This is reflected around the world, including our Better Deal in Europe. Uber helps enable drivers and delivery people to realize their ambitions. And we honor them as Everyday Giants.


When COVID-19 showed up, so did we. We demonstrated our focus on safety by moving what matters. We provided 10 million free rides, meals, and deliveries for essential workers and vulnerable communities. That included 50,000 free rides for those at risk of domestic violence and sexual assault. And then we offered a further 10 million free or discounted rides to get vaccinated.


We’re on the road to zero emissions. We have committed to ensuring that, by 2040, 100% of trips globally are in zero-emission vehicles or through micromobility and public transport. We have also committed to the reduction of single-use plastics by making utensils optional on Uber Eats. We launched electric motorbike products in Kenya, sustainable restaurant campaigns in France, and even a renewable-energy purchasing agreement with a wind farm in Texas.


Uber is an anti-racist company. We made 14 commitments (and more in the meantime) that cover a range of actions—from ridding our platform of racism to driving equity in the community. As part of the latter, we dedicated $10 million to support Black-owned businesses around the world. We also stand in solidarity with the Asian community, and we’re developing initiatives to provide anti-discrimination training. And more.
