JED visitor information

Located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of Jeddah and named after the inaugural King Abdulaziz Al Saud, Jeddah Airport is the busiest in the Saudi Kingdom. The airport is particularly known for its Hajj Terminal, which is custom-built to serve the influx of Muslim pilgrims who travel to Mecca annually. With little traffic, a 30-to-40-minute ride is typical from airport to city center. Positioned close to Islam’s holy Mecca and one of Saudi Arabia’s major cities, Jeddah Airport is perfectly located for both religious pilgrims and leisure travelers.

JED terminals

King Abdulaziz Airport houses 3 terminals: the South Terminal, the North Terminal, and the Hajj Terminal. The South and North terminals are connected by a large walkway, allowing all airlines to operate under one roof. Jeddah Airport’s Hajj Terminal, on the other hand, covering 510,000 square meters (5.5 million square feet), is the 4th-largest terminal building in the world and serves as the primary gateway for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims visiting Mecca.

Things to do at JED

If you’ve got time to spare at King Abdulaziz Airport, both the North and South terminals are excellent places to shop and pick up some souvenirs. If perusing the duty-free shopping areas isn’t enough, it’s only a short ride from King Abdulaziz Airport to all the many shopping malls and stores around the city. You can also fast-track to the city center on the Haramain High-Speed Railway, with a station soon to open at Jeddah Airport.

If you’re looking for a quick preflight snack or meal, there are plenty of various cafes and food outlets in both the North and South terminals. If you’re on a layover or have just arrived, you can also reach some of Jeddah’s best food and dining after a short ride from the airport. In addition, Jeddah Airport commonly distributes free meals and water to all pilgrims passing through the airport for religious festivals, whether Hajj, Ramadan, or Umrah.

Jeddah Airport is most commonly used for pilgrims in religious festivals, as it is so close to the holy city of Mecca and the major city of Jeddah. There are also plenty of other sights to visit near King Abdulaziz Airport. The Haramain High-Speed Railway, with a station soon to be opened at King Abdulaziz Airport, allows you to connect directly to Mecca and Medina, with Uber there to transfer you at either end.
