yeah well the dylan fest was totally lame! nothing going on!!!!! not even a street fair or something!!! it was a waste of gas and money on the towns part because they spent alot advertising it and nothing was happening not even the reading was going on! I thought it pretty rude to pride themselves as being bob dylans home town and not even have anything going but advertise it anyway...totally lame! I think NYC had the better fest
Cool site and nice piece from Ethan Miller. Have you checked out Tift Merritt? She played the Troubador in LA last month, Doug Pettibone from Lucinda William's band sat in on pedal steel. Maybe she's too Joni Mitchell and not enough Gram Parsons for this site, but worth a listen.
Hey there is a Dylan fest on the 24 in hibbing, MN too! they say it's his home town but im pretty sure he just graduated there and lived there for like a year and a half and then left for like sunset strip...could be totally wrong though!
Following last week's Tree Mixtape, we thought we'd keep with the nature theme and share some of our favorite songs about the Mountains. It starts off with some real stomp and holler tunes, leads into a number of bluegrass classics, and then ends up with a pair of contemplative odes to the beautiful hills. This is the most bluegrass based tape that we've done so far (as bluegrass IS the music of the mountains), but there are some other songs thrown in for good measure (a little Blitzen Trapper and Neil Young to go along with your banjo jams?). Check it out after the jump!
1. Loretta Lynn- High On A Mountain Top 2. Blitzen Trapper- Wild Mountain Nation 3. Doc Watson and Bill Monroe- On Some Foggy Mountain Top 4. Osborne Brothers- Rocky Top 5. Dolly Parton- My Tennessee Mountain Home 6. The Dillards- Black Mountain Rag 7. Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn- Pickin' Wild Mountain Berries 8. Flatt and Scruggs- Foggy Mountain Breakdown 9. Townes Van Zandt- My Proud Mountains 10. Neil Young- Sugar Mountain
