Okay sorry about the absence of late but I’ve really been busy.
I had several rants lined up to give out about. One about Flickr, Deviant art, others about the state of modern photography both on a business level and art level. Digital and Film. Also I got a H39 back, to test during the week.
But instead, I’ll just post some photos from my trip to London.
I still have about five rolls to develop. And then scan, and that takes some time. Not to mention 7 left from home to developed, and the 4 more developed from a horse fair awaiting scanning.

I don't know what happened but the two rolls of Neopan 1600, are totally fucked, all the shadow detail is null and void by at least two stops in some cases. It’s not something wrong with the development, as a roll from Dublin I developed with them is spot on. The only explanation I can think of is the Airport scanner fucked the high speed film. I did try to sneak them through, but the metal alarm went off, and they searched me, and then put them through he scanner, bastards.
Mind you in some cases that’s not a bad thing.
I had metered the light for the skin tone on my hand. Yet there is at least two stops lost in the detail fuuuuuuuuuck. By the way don't even think about leaving comments, like the ones I always get on DA, about digital is so much better why would you shoot film.
Why would you shoot cats or sunsets, I say.
Bit of a waste of all that spanky new digital photography init.
The SWPP convention was in itself fine, I'll do another blog about it one day, the one thing I did learn from it was photography as a craft is dead, it's all about sales and marketing. I could bitch about some of the talks and lectures for hours, and to many of my colleagues I did. I’m still angry about the state of the industry, the way the business lectures broke it down to.
Great photography with poor sales = Poverty
Mediocre Photography with good sales = Prosperity
Although the photo above was from a talk by Mark Cleghorn on Lighting for Glamour shoots which was fantastic, he really knew his craft and technique, guys like him are something to aspire to. For some reason his talk was packed with men, I can't ever image why?
The British museum was a hell of a lot of fun to explore, does any other building in the world have such a collection of artefacts. I have to confess I’m a bit of a closet history and archaeology geek, much like my taste in the arts, so it was a really great place to visit. It’s one of those top 100 places to see before you die. If it’s not on the list put it there. If you don’t have a list make one.
The Zeiss Biogon is pin sharp wide open at f2. Bullshit rumours on the internet say it aint, well I say it is.
Alexander the Great.
Incredible works, no wonder the Greek government want's it all back.
I saw the man in the wheel chair looking up to the statue. I just waited for the moment where began to caress the base in admiration.
If you look closely where the woman’s face should be, is the reflection of the skull of a mummy. This was the image I was most looking forward to, thats why I developed the 1600 first. Due to the fucked neg it does not come out that well.
Napoleon’s death mask.
Please do not touch objects, yes I know I should grow up.
Pttt they didn't even hear me.
Didn't work out the way I planned it. 1/2 a second exposure. I should have got more of the waiting line in at the top. Oh well you live you learn.
Giving a very dignified pose, to be pictured with that thing.
A lot of artefacts the Brits stole over the years, eh-em sorry acquired.
The hands on woman, is getting very hands on.
This guy probably has upload the photo to Flickr weeks ago.
I do have some panoramic photos of the interier but you've seen a million of those British museum type shots before.
Editing to me, is nearly as important as composition. Although that concept to the hordes that use Flickr, is as alien as Deguerrotypes.
I apologise for all the neg dust, I’m too lazy, but it does add something to them. Then again there’s people on deviant art who have filters to add dust and grain to there files, yeah nice one keep it real. I've seen one forum the other day, where somebody was asking advice on how to get an expired film look to there pictures. I left a comment shoot expired film duh, I noticed he banned me from his account.
I have the colour London photos ready , I just have to add stories to them. Best regards till then, good night and good luck.
great stuff mate, nice capture of the fella stroking the statue base. as you say, it's an amazing place, and also a relic from the time we stormtroopered all over the fucking planet robbing stuff!
Nice shots! I've recently returned from a brief photographic foray into London with one of our readers. Went pretty well considering the gale force winds!
For whom are you testing the H39 back? Let me know how you find it. It's right up there on my wishlist!
cuul photos, I love seeing all the dust and shit in the scans...and just a thought..england can't fill a history museum without stealing have the shit in it....give it backkkkk!
and why am I posting this again? Another blonde moment over here I see. :D
Project Rainbow (as emo as that sounds) is serving me really well. I'm actually lugging my camera out with me every day now. Which means more photos. Well, if only my battery would last as long as me... :)
Great to see some stuff from London finally. Didn't take you too long. ;) I love the old man in the crowd and the man in the wheel chair ones the best, they have such a lovely connections in them, especially the latter. But really, all these are great. The British Museum is one of my favourite places in London, too. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest now, shame about the neopan getting zapped at the airport. :(
Oh and BTW, you weren't whingening too much about the stuff when we met. It was all relevant and I quite enjoyed having a good natter about the stuff. ;)
@Susanna: Thanks, yeah three weeks isn't too long for the analogue world. Yeah that Museum is just astounding. I'm loving the project rainbow your doing on Flickr. I'll post the rest as soon as possible.
@Chris: Man it seems to be the same the world over. Yeah fondlers and donkeys love to throw there two cent's in about gear they never handled, the D3 has produced stunning work so far.
Good to hear the picture on your wall is getting attention, I brought a girl back to my house the other day, and she thought I was a psycho for having a picture of David Lynch on the wall.
@Darren: Will do buddy, lets see what that bad boy scanner can do.
@Obsidian-Fox: I'm not a magician, just very lucky.
@morgs: Yeah studios located in posh areas, do really well despite the work they produce. Thanks for that link, man his photos really sucked, I can't believe he has all those fellowships. My dad got a gold Blad back in the 90's but his stuff is a hell of a lot better ;) @Ryan Lemere: Thanks for the support, yeah money does corrupt the creative side of the medium.

Great shots as always, man. If you want me to put any of those irradiated negs on the drum scanner, just let me know and I'll see what I can pull out of them.

photographer, i think, has suffered a major blow from the commercial industries and such. actually, anything involving creative talent has been undermined with money. its really sad.
but you shot some pretty interesting things in the museum. keep it up!
i'm good with neg dust. it's all good. it's sad about the state of photography. some of the most untalented bastards are in amazing position in l.a. and n.y.c. seriously sad. love the zeiss biogon, mate! the people who say shit about it ... probably haven't even used it. i saw a review-cough-cough of the d3 ... 3/4 of the "reviewers" hadn't even had it in their fucking hands! c*nts. donkeys. whatever. very nice to see your work, mate! as ... always!
got another compliment on your piece in our dining room! :)
its not lost... you posted this. so the craft of real photography is still alive in this, and other great blogs.
i find similar angst here in brisbane. people go for names and letters after names and are impressed by studio locations... bullshit... check out this motherfucker http://www.chrishallphotography.com.au/
It's been a while. Just been doing some catching up. Great to see your new stuff (well, what photobucket hasn't fucked up)! Good to see the M6 is treating you well and have a great trip mate!
Hi Seamus Just found your blog via Chris. You've got some really great stuff going on here. I look forward to spending some time catching up. Cheers Mark
Nice page Treamus, Please click on the CASSETTE displayed on my page to listen to the music. Thats me signing and rapping on the first song. I also produced and wrote it. Strange enough, my EX-GIRLFRIEND's brother played the guitar. Things that I mentioned in the song came to pass in real life. Please listen to get the full STORY. I wrote the song but didnt think what I happened to simply create out of exploration of the art would actually happen to me.Please don't forget to VOTE. Over and Out. C.R.I.$.I.$.
overall enjoyed your photos, great eye! I hope I didnt overload you with comments, but when I see something I like I like to let people I know I appreciate...and then I go on to another picture....and i like that one too....
Happy to find you here! By the way don’t listen to that double chined bitch curator. Your photography rocks...you just haven’t met the person who understands it yet. Personally I like your style, I feel like its a window through your eyes. Cheers!
I really enjoy your work. Very casually, circumstantial and comical, it does have meaning! Much to the eye of the interpreter, wonderful. Unfortunately I have crossed over to the dark side of DSLR's and I haven't really gotten the swing of it yet. I think I need to get my ass out of the exhaustingly blah, US and hug my film camera close again.
I really really enjoyed looking at your photos. I don't know what those so-called "curators" were thinking, but your work certainly has depth, humour and grit. Keep at it
