Ive always looked at my self as a documentary photographer who takes a few portraits on the side - a sort of byline.

But the amount of people who have said to me 'concentrate on your portraits' in the past week as made me question this.

Maybe i do street as a byline?

I don't know.

Of course theres always the occasional overlap where to two genres meet.

Environmental portraiture or something.

Thing is - I'm not sure what or who to believe.

I go to art college and the people who have been telling me to ere on the side of portraiture are fairly pretentious when it comes to photography - if not pretentious full stop. So of course they're going to prefer portraits. To make it harder still a photographer i have a huge amount of respect for - http://www.lightstalkers.org/mishkahenner http://www.common-eye.com/ - told me he really liked my portraits and said nothing about my other work - admittedly it was a short conversation but still - it makes me think.

But then some other people who's work i like go out of there own way to tell me that they like my street stuff.


At the end of the day I'm not sure what to think - so i would like peoples opinions.

Yeah - sorry to sound all emo and all but i had to vent it somewhere.
