LA Fashion Week was concluding with events that epitomized this city, its rich history in fashion and especially the individual independence of its fashion designers. This weekend's events began early Friday morning with the Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa's unprecedented move to announce the start of LA Market Week. Then, later that night, the incredible Sue Wong hosted a party/fashion event at her palatial Cedars Hollywood estate and finally Jared Gold's extravaganza at Downtown's famed Union Station. It was to be a busy weekend indeed. Pen and paper in pocket: Check. Advil and Emergen-C packets: Check. Change of outfits: Mega-check!

Mayor Villaraigoisa Opens LA Market Week
To begin my LA Fashion weekend, I was invited to attend a press conference that LA mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, was giving to kick off LA Market Week, recognizing LA's pivotal leadership role in the fashion industry. LA Market Week is when buyers from all across the US and abroad converge in Los Angeles and make appointments with all the designers' showrooms and place their orders for coming seasons. LA designers Sue Wong, Allen B. Schwartz of ABS, and a representative of Christian Audigier/Ed Hardy were by his side, flanked by models wearing their creations as well. One speaker even thanked the contribution of Bravo's Project Runway for highlighting LA designers and bringing them to a national level.
