finding old memories

the other day i found some old negs in a drawer that i hadn't seen since i took them 16 years ago!

i felt like carter opening tutankhamun's tomb. heh heh, here's me...

this it made me realise, i just don't take enough photos!

i've been grinning my ass off all night at shots of me and my mates on our first foreign holiday together when we were 18. people and incidents captured that we still talk about today, half a lifetime away. just a bunch of bullshit snapshots taken for my own enjoyment, and thats what i've got away from.

i've got so i don't take photos when i think 'oh thats been done so who would want to see that again' or 'it's been done and i can't do it better so whats the point'.

so i need to start taking photos for my own enjoyment again, even if no one ever sees them, and if people see them and like them too, then thats a bonus.

hope everyone's well, and i hope you too find a set of negs in a drawer from back in the day :D

oh, and if you're wondering, thats the football shirt of f.c.palermo, sicily ;)

That is awesome! I see we used to have the same hairdo 16 years ago. Unfortunately for my part the hair is only a memory now :)

heh heh, one of my fav phrases 'hairdo' :D should be used more often in life, cheers mate. i have the same hairdo now, only more grey ;)

I'm not quite to the point where I have 16-year-old negatives yet, but I found some old slide film that my dad took back in college... some of the shots even look like me now! Weird stuff...

@obsidian:mate, you wouldn't believe why i have long hair, not metal, but a cross between wanting hair like the fella i saw in asunkist soda advert and one of madonna's dancers hah hah hah. don't tell anybody ;) @gonzom:i have very few shots from when i was young, but that just gave me a fucking great idea! my best mate has the shirt now, next time i go home i'll get it and take the shot, might be tight :D @darren, you have to do it mate ;) @carlos:bring on the incriminating stuff mate, you're among friends :D @arthur:thanks very much mate, and the hairs the same now, just grey around the margins :D @chris:hah hah, yeah, david coverdale. cheers mate ;)

christian!!! first of all, congrats on the baby!! wow ... must be such a heavy feeling! i'm happy for you! :) and second, nice hair!!! i can't wait to see my old photos in a couple decades! i love looking back at what was ... congrats again man, that's huge!!!!

That's awesome! I'm always finding old-ass negs from various stages of my life. I have bags and bags of undeveloped rolls from back in the day, too. Maybe one day I'll set up a dip and dunk station and run them all. I'll need a few pints first though... ;-)

group blog favourite photography

i thought it would be a good idea to try the new collaborative group blog tool out on something i've been thinking about for a while, what's everyones favourite photos of all time. i'm sure we have many and it's difficult to choose, but i'm interested in what you all like so i'll kick off.

this shot by neil leifer is of ali v williams, and the instant i saw it it became one of my favourites. his innovative use of a remote shutter release in the lighting gantry was possible because it was the first fight in the houston astrodome, and the lighting rig was 80ft up rather than the usual 20ft because of the sight lines for seating. genius, read all about it here.
