Nestled on the left side of Lupo’s lies a tiny street where, before a show, some of the best rock bands to hit Little Rhody lie-in-wait in their tour buses. When I caught up with bassist Jeph Howard and drummer Dan Whitesides of The Used (guitarist Quinn Allman popped by too) they were doing just that. I traveled through a crowd of some very angry and jealous young girls to a back entrance, maneuvered around some dumpsters, through the backstage area, and up about two flights of winding stairs to a little nook with couches. There I screamed some questions their way, and they screamed back (some bands were rehearsing). Eventually the music died down and we looked pretty silly screaming so we talked instead.
