I was in Istanbul for 5 days last month and i got to shoot a load of film. I've only been able to develop 5 rolls so far. Since its a picture heavy post and uber is uber slow in Jordan, i'm just keeping them on my original blog.(Uber should let one copy html versions of posts into the blogs here.) So check them out here.
Two of my photos have been published in The weekend Metro Life Section of 7 Days in Dubai. The photos are portraits of L.A based Arab Hip Hop artist, Omar Chakkaki, aka Offendum. For a number of months i've been shooting my first long term project which hopefully will end up in a photography book about Arab Hip Hop. The article can be read here. The photos were taken in Beirut.
About a year and a half ago, i got to read Chris Weeks's essay "Quest of the muse" and was so impressed by it that i wondered if one day i'll be able to have and show pictures of friends who inspire me photographically.
I just got sent the link for this video a couple of days ago. While attending Sundance, three professors from the university i went to came in support of our film, they shot a quick interview with me about the film, check it out.
I finally shot my first magazine cover! While attending the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, i was commissioned by Jo magazine to shoot their March issue cover. Mahmoud Al-Massad is a Jordanian film maker whose documentary "Recycle" won the cinematography award for world documentaries at Sundance. The session was a very quick one, we were running late to the closing ceremony, the sun was going down and i had to get the shot. The result is what you see above.
Laith! I'd like to learn more about your film work. I do DP and editing work myself, and I didn't realize until recently that you too are involved in that realm.
